Android Administration 1st Step ??

What book would you recommend to a person who wants to learn the design, function, and administration of the Android OS? My immediate interest is NOT APP DEVELOPMENT but to TAKE CONTROL OF MY CELL PHONE. I want to eliminate all the software the does what it wants to, when it wants to, and establish a configuration and suite of applications that are directed by me, NOT GOOGLE. While I enjoy chat boards I learn better from structured literature and would like a book recommendation if possible. I want to understand the architecture and function of android so I can control my mobile operating environment. My particular interest is in Android on Smart Phone platforms. Thanks for your recommendations.
 
Your best bet would be to unlock the bootloader, and flash a custom ROM on your phone. It's device dependant, but there's plenty of help on this forum if you want to do that.

Sounds like a path to freedom. Can you point me to a resource / string etc. here in the forum that I can read to begin learning how to do that?
 
Moto G Play with Android 6.0.1. If another hardware platform would be more conducive I'm willing to change, however I do get along with Motorola hardware fairly well.
