Android application connected to some external source

i like to develope an android application. this application can able to connect to some external source exemple if i clik on bouton from my smartphone , the door from my house opend... it is possible ? we can have a capture device from smartphone on the door to facilitate the work ??

I'm sure it can be done, you obviously would need some kind of server and connections to that server for any device you want to control.
