Android apps icon badge

Hello everyone,

I've switched from iPhone to Android a few weeks ago and I am loving the experience so far and I am very satisfied but I can't hide that I truly miss one of the most useful things in iOS; Icon badge.

To clarify my issue: take a to-do app like 2Do, Things from iPhone, etc. These apps icons will show a little red bubble of today's tasks. Take Mail app for an example, a red bubble will be shown above the icon showing how many new/unread email messages you have in your unbox. - I've added a photo to this post.

How possible is that with Android?
Is it possible but not added to Android?
Or app developers are just too lazy to add it?

I'm running Android 4.1.1 with no ROMS, just the stock/original one.

firstly are you using a third party launcher? this can very much depend if you are using one which by default doesn't show the notification bubble next to sms for example. touchwiz does have this by default-go launcher on the other hand requires a separate app-i use nova launcher and again that needs an additional app to show this.

Well, I am using the stock launcher. What app can be helpful in this that requires no modifications to be done on the launcher, system, and etc?

Unfortunately, both of these and yet a couple more apps don't even come close to what I call a *good experience*. I think I have to live with this fact and look forward to seeing this feature implemented natively in Android. Hopefully with 4.2, or ASAP!

Thanks all for replying. Appreciate your time.

Curious though as why you prefer to have " no modifications to be done on the launcher, system, and etc", since that's what Android is about, modifying everything to suit your needs.

Anyway, I think this is app dependent as well, since not all apps are supported by the notifier apps.

I have a sorta good option, Go Launcher is free, doesn't require rooting, and has a free plugin for app badges. It seems to work fine for missed calls, text messages, gmail, and some others, but Facebook is bugged. It keeps saying that over 500 new items exist but there ain't

When I got my ipad I forgot how convenient it was to have app badges and showing how many of. I'm surprised Android hasn't followed suit...having generic "Facebook" icons in my status bar doesn't really work. Not when every app finds a way to add even more clutter to the bar

Changing the launcher does nothing, its not any different than changing the desktop theme/look of Microsoft Windows
