Android Apps

I was a bit reticent to download any apps to my new smart phone because anytime I downloaded anything to my old PC, it generally would cause a problem. However, I bit the bullet and downloaded the BBC app. I love it. Then, I found Pulse, and I love it, too. I kept searching and found TED which is terrific. Now, I am considering downloading one of the "JuiceDefender" apps to help conserve battery power on my phone. Anyone use any version of JuiceDefender and recommends it? There is a free app, and there is an "Ultimate" version.

Thanks!

I have the plus version and it helps me a lot. On my walk to school which is twenty minutes, I listen to music, text, and have data on. I lose nothing. Then throughout school I play games and text and by the end I have about 70 percent.

Wow, that is pretty good!

I use it. And if the stats given by the app itself are anything to go by it improved my battery by (1.89x) which I don't know if it's accurate or not.

What I CAN tell you though is that generally It'd take my phone with stock rom (firmware f) around an hour and a half to 2 hours for it to go down 10% in battery or so.
And this is from someone that texts a lot and plays random games (pathpix is an addiction, I swear. I used to play that when all I had was an ipod...).

And when I leave it on overnight when I wake up like 8~9 hours later it'd have gone down only 8 or so percent....

Now I last time I didn't use this app was like back when I first got my phone so I don't really remember what the stock phone without it would have in terms of battery drainage.

The juice saving apps are mostly smoke and mirrors BS.

If you believe what they Say they'll do, you'll believe Anything.

They don't do anything you can't do yourself with your phone settings and most of them work by turning off stuff They think you don't need when They think you don't need it. The problem is, the stuff's NOT usually there Instantly waiting for you like usual when you Do need it.

Cut your screen brightness down and either kill the auto updates to apps you use or make the updates not every 15 min. (Faceplant, weather app, email, etc;)

Your free another BS tip-o-the-night. Everyone says turn your GPS off it drains badry. They're wrngh. It only turns on when some app needs it. If you don't leave it on stuff that needs your location has to have it turned on first. Just leave it on.

Those badry apps are crap. Don't bother with them.

People poon their phone up adding to much crap to them. Then when they poon up, they got no damn idea what did the poonin'. If you put it on and don't use it, take it off. Don't put crap on your phone unless the reviews on-line AND HERE are fricken lightnin' bolts from on high burned into stone.

The people that made your phone aren't (complete) eedeeits. Anything they could do to make it use less juice they did before the stork brought it to you. :D

I agree with Bruce. The so-called power or battery-saving apps mostly automate things that you should already be doing yourself because they are common sense with regard to extending battery life, and some of them may actually have the opposite effect.
You can find more discussions of this and other similar apps in the Android Applications section of the forums. This isn't really a Motion-specific topic.
