Android Auto and Ford Sync 3

The_Chief

Accept no imitations!
I just traded in my GMC Acadia for a new Ford Explorer, and I absolutely LOVE that Android Auto is included!

(albeit by cable connection, not Bluetooth)

But the dealership told me that Sync 3 was due for an update in the next couple of weeks that will allow users to use WAZE as their primary navigation map!

WOO HOO!

Yeah, I got the option to choose Waze on Sunday!

It's a stripped-down version, though: while I can log hazards and things and see other Wazers, I can't log into my Waze account. I'm just a random user. I understand that Ford needs it to be compatible with the core system and development will continue, so maybe we'll eventually get to that point. The reason we have to connect the phone by cable is because that's just too much data for Bluetooth.

Glad you got it! Data rate, figured that might be the case. Running AA sure makes the phone awfully "logey" for other things though...

Well, I imagine that Android Auto dominates the phone screen while it's hooked to the car because we're not supposed to be looking at our phones: we can do everything through the car! But hard-pressing the home button (well, to get haptic feedback on phones with on-screen controls) will get back to the home screen.

That makes perfect sense...but! I'm the "tech guy" riding shotgun, my wife does all the driving because my back won't let me sit still for more than a few minutes. I find I have to unplug the connection, make any necessary changes, then plug it back in. I'll try your tip next drive we take!
