Android Backup location

I recently moved phones from a HTC Desire to the GS3 and when I logged into my google account all of my contacts and apps were restored. Pretty impressive

Can anyone tell me exactly what is backed up by this feature and where the data is stored, also can the data be viewed?

On google servers which you can't access

By default, your contacts that are stored as Google, google calendar entries and Gmail are backed up unless you turn them off or don't use them. You can do more and there are more apps and services that allow total backup to their clouds.

..and also as per the op, Google apps, wallpaper settings, ringtone settings etc are also backed up by Google, but you cannot access this data

Ah ok thanks. I was surprised to find that all WiFi network s were transferred as well I didn't expect that.

Yeah it remembers quite a lot. I don't personally use this though
