Android Barcode Reader - HTC Legend

I am in a catch 22 situation would like to use the reader to download apps but I cannot find it on my Legend.

I have tried to download it from the Market Place but it seems that I must read a barcode before I can do it.

I have download a couple of apps but I am told that these need some source code which I cannot find.

I am totally new to Android phones so please excuse my obvious stupidity.

Can any one tell me how I can download the reader (without using a barcode) and how to use it?

Many thanks

Go to the app market and search barcode scanner. Download it. Then open it and use it to scan the QR codes. Pretty easy, but I too was totally confused by QR codes until I realized that the camera does not deal with the natively.

I went to the Market via the icon on my phone but could not find the "Barcode Scanner" app.

Are there several different markets and, if so, which one do I go to and how do I go to it.

Lots of questions from a newbie!?

just scan this:

I kid, i kid

try going here on your phone

BarcodeScanner3.22.apk - zxing - Barcode Scanner 3.22 for Android - Project Hosting on Google Code

download it and open it with a file manager. If you don't have "install unknown apps" checked, it should ask you if you want to go to your settings and turn it on. Install it and test the program with my code above and see if it pops up in your market.

Thanks Chroma, for the info and the humour.

So I use my phone to get on the internet go to the page suggested and download the app.

Is this app all I need or what?

Are there any instruction page(s) for the barcode app and its use?

As you can see I am hopelessly ignorant on Android phones and their use.

What I need is a simplified idiots guide to Android phones, allowing me to get some basic information before I blunder on and on.

yep, just download the app and I use Astro File manager. Open your file manager, browse to downloads on your sd card and just tap the downloaded program.

Android sees it's a installable file and will ask you if you want to go to your settings to allow unknown programs to be installed. Check the setting on and go back and then select install the program.

Once you start the program there will be a quick tutorial.

(Remember: the options button on the phone is used to get to almost all program's setting)

Let me know if you get it to work.

Thanks Chroma.

It turns out that I had downloaded it but without Astro I had no means of knowing this.

It is now installed and running.

Thanks.
