Help Android Calendar showing declined facebook events

So apparently this is a really common problem on a bunch of phones. I am posting it here because trying a solution from another phone (clear calendar storage) did nothing to fix the problem AND deleted all events i had manually added. Anyone have a solution? I like seeing most events, but a few people keep inviting me to month long events, which clog up my calendar, and particularly clog up my calendar widget, which i would like to only show "important" events. Or maybe there is a way to easily add facebook events to a calendar without sync by clicking the particular event?
 
How do I prevent a declined event from haunting me daily on my calendar? I have worked on this issue for so long it is driving me crazy! Nothing seems to work. I don't want to turn off birthday's or other accepted events - just "the one that will never end which just goes on and on and then....". Thanks for your help to keep me out of the asylum for a few more days......:eek:
 
I contacted the person who tagged me with the invite and it magically disappeared within a couple of days. Not sure what happened, but something worked!
