Android car radio USB storage default

Hi guys,
I have just bought an android double din head unit for my car, it works really good but I want to plug in a usb stick in the back of it and make it default to store to. Eg I have pandora app on it and want to download any songs I like to the usb stick as the head unit only has 5 gig free and this is the reason I want to use the usb stick to keep build in memory free.
Can i set this to be default ? If so how? Am running Oreo btw.
Cheers guys

welcome to AF!!!!!!!!!!

did you check the specs of your radio? not exactly sure what u are asking us? android car stereos are not like an extension of your phone. they are designed to work with your phone. they have their own programming. if the unit comes with a usb port you should be fine.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The head unit (stereo) is a stand alone android device and I have apps on it. yea I can see the usb stick and I can transfer files to and from it, mount and unmount it, but I want the usb to be the default location to save to or even move my apps to eg pandora. I want it to save the downloaded songs there In stead of the internal memory

stand alone? like attached to an existing radio? what device do you have?
does it have a settings menu?
It's a complete radio replacement. Yes it has a settings menu but in the storage menu it shows the usb memory but no options for it, I can read and write to it, I just want to make it default for storing to so I don't deplete what's left of the internal memory!

It's classed as removable USB storage rather than micro-SD. I think apps just do not support removable USB for their downloads, cache, and other data storage. Don't know anything about Pandora as I'm not in the US, but some music player apps might be made to use micro-SD, that are usually found in phones and tablets, but not removable USB drives.

Some music apps might scan a USB drive for MP3s and play them, MP3s that have already been copied to the USB drive with the file manager or a computer. And I suspect the head unit's own stock music player does that.

There's absolutely no way to move apps and run them from removable USB either.

Does this particular head unit not take a micro-SD?

Well I think you just about answered that for me. Lol if only I spent the extra and got one with an SD card slot... I'm in the uk. What if I was to root the device could I get access to the app and move where it stores music? Or will that not work with 'removable media'
Cheers for the help

No idea, but in theory it might be possible. First problem would be getting the head unit rooted, there's no information available, so good luck with that. Also I'm not sure if tools like App2SD can be used with Oreo 8.0.

Is Pandora available in the UK now? Although I'm actually in China. Where all these aftermarket Android head units come from. And music services here either stream, or just let you download all the MP3s or FLACs directly, and then can be copied and played on anything you like.

I have googled it and there seem to be roots available, and even if I did root it what could I do to move the stored location to the removable storage?
Nope pandora is not available in UK I just use a Hotmail address and a VPN. Much prefer it to Spotify or the likes..
So if I root it what can I do with it then?
I'll try app2sd later see what it does (if anything)
Cheers
