Android CBZ/CBR reader questions

Hey guys,

This isn't another "What's the best Android comic reader?" thread, or at least not on purpose. Rather, I have some questions about different apps.

My goto reader is Perfect Veiwer. I've tried others, but none compare. I love the ability to reconfigure the touchscreen areas, I like the way it sorts the library. I like everything really. I just wish the UI would be redesigned to follow Holo guidelines and I'd like the cover thumbnails to be a bit larger. Also, for a while it kept crashing on me. While it seems more stable on me now, I looked into other viewers during PVs dark days.

I could never get Open Comic Reader to display my covers. It would open and show boxes with my file names, but no covers. I believe it crashed when I tried opening files too, but I don't remember for sure. I messed with it to no end, uninstalling/reinstalling, and finally just gave up. Anybody have more success with this one?

I like POW! and Challenger Comics, though Challenger crashes on opening any comic file fairly often lately.

I liked the free versions of Komik and Comica, even if they are no longer updated. But does anyone know if purchasing the full app removes all the ads? I couldn't find anything on their descriptions saying it does, which I thought was weird. I don't wanna pay for either and still see ads

ComiCat looked interesting. The screenshots remind me a lot of Perfect Viewer with the Holo design I like. But there's no free or trial version available. If you've used it and PV, how does ComiCat stack up? Is it worth the $2.99 sight unseen?

Are there others I should try? What makes them interesting/different?

My only requirements are that it can handle CBZ and CBR files and that it have a library function. I gave up on A Comic Viewer as it seems to lack that.

Honestly, I spend as much time goofing around with the different veiwers and their settings as I do reading my comics!

I've been happily using Komic free for a while, no ads, but I use AdAway on phone (needs root permission).

Thanks for the response.

I'd rather pay the $1.99 than root my tablet, but maybe I *should* install AdBlock on it. I don't believe it requires root for Wi-Fi (which is all my tablet has).

Thanks. AdBlock is making Komik a lot nicer to use. Now I don't mind spending $1.99 on it.

I'd still like to hear about ComiCat.

So of the readers you've tried, what's you favorite and why? I always go back to Perfect Viewer because of all the customizing it allows.

I've taken the plunge on ComiCat though. it's still uploading the massive collection I have on my SD card. We'll see how it goes.

Just been using Komik reader, first one I tried, did the job. ComiCat does look nice though. Best to try 'em out for yourself as you've been doing, see what suits YOU best. I use SumatraPDF to view comics on PC.

ComiCat is very nice so far. I'll probably go back to Perfect Viewer though, due to the ability to assign touchscreen functions. I guess I wish Perfect Viewer would updated their UI to Holo guidelines and allow for larger cover thumbnails or I wish ComiCat would steal Perfect Viewer's ability to customize areas of the touchscreen.

I use SumatraPDF to view comics on PC.

I use ComicRack to organize my comics on my PC. I don't read them on the PC though.

ComicRack has a VERY nice looking Android version, but from what I remember, it was needlessly fussy to actually use. I'm not terribly worried about keeping my PC and tablet collections synced.

I just move a few to the tablet's SD card as I feel like reading them. I have a 32GB SD card full of just comics.
