Android Device for a Geek and Newbie

Hi All,
I am a newbie in android field and i was completely impressed by the apps and tweaks that can be done. I was longing to buy a Samsung S2 but suddenly i got this thought.
Since i was ready to tweak and experiment the features, i am afraid i would brick the phone if i did something wrong. So, had a thought if i can settle with some device that is cheaper (around 150-200 USD) experiment with it and then go for higher end models.

What do u guys think? Can i still go for S2. If not, let me know some mobiles in the above mentioned price. I am from India and I am expecting a phone with decent performance, manual mods possible, with 3+" display and with good cam.

I saw Micromax A70 falls under categories. But, still need an advice if i can still go with S2 if its price gets down owing to Galaxy Nexus release next month.

It's pretty damn hard to completely brick an Android device with most of what you can do. You have to be trying to brick it to actually brick it. You'll likely 'soft' brick it often, though, which means the phone doesn't load up. But that's as easy as getting back into recovery and flashing something that works or loading a backup.

I have no experience with an S2, but I've played with 3 android devices so far and have done some really noobish things and still have 3 working android devices (after some fun in recovery and XDA, of course).

jerofld, thanks for the advice. So, ur saying I can go for S2. Or just as u played, can i just enter with Galaxy Y or pop or A 70 and get my tweaks done?

Like I said, I have no experience with the S2. Nor any Samsung Android device. You should check out the Galaxy S2 subsection that applies to you (it's sorted by carrier/international version) and check the root sub section. It will likely have all the information you need to root and how to deal with problems. Because I'm sure there have been many people who make common mistakes with rooting and I'm also sure there have been as many people telling them how to fix it. Learn from other's mistakes :)
