Android Device Manager

Was bored and browsing thru crap on phone and found Android Device Manager under the Google Settings app.

Looks like Google has integrated the ability to locate device on map, ring lost device and even erase device. I've found this on all our phones so it's not just on Victory.

You log into https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager from your pc with Google account associated with phone and you can locate, ring or erase device.

Not sure if I'm late to the party but I never knew about this. Would prevent having to run a 3rd party app.

Funny you mention this today - I discovered this function just this afternoon while trying to find a way to remove old devices listed on my Google Play account.

Tested the map and ring functions, which seem to work adequately. Ring makes your phone go off at top volume for five minutes - great if you're the type to misplace it in your house :)
You'd think Google would publicize this more... or have I just been living under a rock as well? ;)

EDIT: It might be part of the rollout where they're trying to move away from updates to the core and update apps instead.

EDIT 2: I can't actually get it to ring my tablet or my phone, or locate either :S

I didn't know about it on Android 4.1.2. I thought they announced it for 4.2.x and 4.3.x, though

What's nice is my phone is Gingerbread (Victory should arrive today or Monday) and it rang that phone just fine.

I can't enable remote wipe though on the phone, since using "factory Reset" on a custom Rom (or just this specific custom rom) on the OptiS will brick the device.

Yeah. I've never been able to get Kaspersky to work, either, for location services. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Sync is enabled for all devices.

I use airdroid. You can find device, ring it, turn on camera, launch an app, even make a call so you can hear whats happening around.

Make sure location services are turned on..

Settings > Location Services

I'd sooner punch a hole through the front-facing camera with a drill press and run a laptop chain permanently attached to a nipple piercing through it before I left location on 24/7 in fear my phone would be stolen.

But then, I'm an oddball who doesn't want every app with location access to know where I am at all times and I dont have a Facebook account, so I'm damn near a terrorist already. ;)

I got rid of Facebook a while back, but location services comes in handy for me. I'm just glad I can turn it off any time.
