Android - device memory - available space

My phone is Samasung Galaxy Xcover 2 (S7710) with an internal device memory of 4GB. The phone runs on Android 4.1.2.

When I open the SETTINGS and go to the STORAGE it shows the following -

Total space - 1.08GB

Applications - 788MB

Available - 212MB

When I open the APPLICATIONS MANAGER it shows the following -

Apps - 887mb in use

321mb - free

The biggest apps are - Chrome (291mb), Google search (44.55mb) and Google Play Services (42.8mb)

How much space does the Android operating system occupies?

Today I had a look at friends phone which also has 4GB. internal memory - his phone runs on Android 4.2, but his Total Space and available space are much bigger! - How come?

Is anything wrong with my phone?

The space I have is after deleting some apps such as Skype, Live Chat, Google Drive, Google Plus, etc.

Why is that?

What should I do? Maybe reset to factory default?

The whole thing is frustrating...

The Android OS takes up some of the internal storage, and around 3GB is common so I don't see anything unusual with ending up with 1.08GB. This is why many people don't recommend phones with only 4GB storage, most models end up having little space for you to use. Some phones, like your friends, will use a little less.

In Settings -> Storage have you cleared the cache?

Kate,

I clean cache almost every day with
Clean Master
1 Tap Cleaner
and the task manager

Still it amazed me how the Android system occupies around 3GB in one phone, and around 1GB in a very similar phone???

Do you keep any photos or music on your phone? That can add up. Without being able to look at them it's hard to account for the discrepancy. :/

That wouldn't do it then. Are you and your friend both on the same carrier? If not, maybe your carrier adds more bloat than your friend's.

Yes, we are both on the same carrier...very frustrating!
Wonder if reset to factory default will make any difference...
