Apps Android Distros?

Mason

Newbie
I've been thinking about the possibilities of different Android Distros, and to me it seems like it would be a pretty great idea.

Your Thoughts?

Distributions... slightly (or vastly) different versions to better fit the more specific needs of.. well, whoever the developing group is trying to accommodate.

The obvious example is Linux. Linux is Linux. But there are hundreds of distro's for Linux.. Red Hat, Suse, Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc

I think to a certain point there already are Android distros. There are currently three that stand out to me. Standard Android, HTC, Motorola. Both HTC and Motorola have made their own interface and applications. HTC has taken it the furthest, they have a a plethora of custom themed applications that are different than the ones included in standard Android.

I would like to see a KDE interface come out for Android so that my phone matches my computer. It would make my iPhone toting friends very jealous.

Cyangenmod deserves could be considered its own Distro. Problem with the distro model is that it leads to/ is a symptom of Platform Fragmentation, which isn't a good thing...

Custom Roms are just fine. No need for manufacturer distros.
