Android email: global inbox - K9, MailDroid question

Hello - pardon me if any of these answers are already posted -- I have been researching and trialing for a few hours this morning and have to stop but still had a few questions.

I have an Android LG Lucid, and had been just using gmail for two gmail accounts, and the other email program on the android for my 5 other accounts. I have all my email on my computer in Thunderbird with a unified inbox, so just last night it came to mind that maybe I could find a similar program on Android. That brought me to researching and I have loaded both K9 and Maildroid on the phone, which nicely do have the global inbox.

On both, however, it does not show more than a day or so's emails. I did load more but can only load 250 (on MailDroid) at a time. Do all of these mails get loaded right on the phone or SD card memory? I am not sure I want that. The gmail app shows all my emails but I assume they're on the "cloud" and not on my phone, and that is why they all come up. I wanted to have a global inbox with all my emails in IMAP, which may not exist.

Being that I just had to delete about 20 apps as my phone was not updating, I do hesitate to bring in a lot of emails into its memory.

Additionally, on the K9 it does at least show the number of emails I have in IMAP, though it doesn't show the actual emails. So then I tried to search for very old email that I know is on there in Thunderbird, and it did not find it. So apparently it doesn't search through the IMAP but only through what is loaded on the phone?

Thanks for any help. I also saw that there is a way to load email accounts into gmail and just load them that way, but I did try one without success on the gmail site and then decided I really didn't want to mix that together. I have carefully set up all my emails in thunderbird and if I start changing settings of my individual emails I will mess that up, so wanted to avoid that.

Let me know if you have any questions for me -- thanks for your anticipated replies!

I had the opposite problem (so to speak) in that I wanted to access all my emails via imap BUT I also wanted everything downloaded to my phone so I could search them (obviously not necessarily new emails, just historic ones). With Maildroid I could download them all but a) I could only download the headers in 250 lot chunks (as you say) and b) to actually download the email locally onto the phone you have to read each one. That wasn't going to happen so thought I'd be out of luck. Then I came across Profimail Go which allows me to have everything on my phone so I can search locally. Oh, and it can use your SDCard for storage.

Is that a solution for you? Searching everything locally instead of online?

Thank you for the reply - I will check out that app!

Thanks again - after much tinkering I just decided to go ahead and make one inbox in gmail using all my addresses in there. I actually love it!! Thanks for helping me thinking through which way to go with this!
