Android Emoticons - horrifically ugly!

The more I learn about and customize my new phone, the more I love - and the more I get nit-picky and complain about things that really don't matter that much!

....

I can not stand the Android robot emoticons. Really just repugnant to me. I'm on a MyTouch 4g, but I'm guessing that all Androids come stock with the emoticons.

Any way to change this?? Specifically without rooting?

Just plain 'ol emoticons would be ideal for me. But even disabling picture emoticons and going to just text would be better.

Nah, I don't care either way about the android's style of emoticons. There maybe an app for custom emoticons on the market? I know rooting a phone allows you to use custom themes and maybe custom emoticons incorporated in them.

Try another messaging app. I'm not aware of any off the top of my head that don't use the stock emoticons or allow you to customize or enable/disable them. You don't have to use the stock apps if you don't like them.
