Help Android files app keeps stopping and phone is slowly gaining storage space

some apps MUST use it. I don't know how to change the default. It's not like I want to, but I have grown into it since it was 'forced' onto me kinda
Again, in 10+ years of using Motorola smartphones, *I* have never seen this. :)

But I think we're getting sidetracked. You mentioned that you're not having this problem when you're logged in as a different user. So let's look at that. What's different? Does one user have privileges the problem one doesn't? Or vice versa? There's something different somewhere...we just need to figure out what!

Don't think it's a permission issue. The admin user is the one having an issue. My other one isn't an admin user and doesn't.

Also, how did you guys change wallpapers with the file explorer you all used?

yeah, but it still poses a problem for other things, as I've mentioned I need that files app to set my wallpapers to whatever I want. The default android launcher does this too.

Not true.
In Gallery (not just the one I specified) there is a 'set as' function to make whatever you like as the wallpaper.

Ok, I got video proof. The app I used let me upload to Google Photos, which is how I retrieved it, and then uploaded it to Drive, since forums said it was a "security threat" (very frustrating). Keep in mind I've tried:
- Rebooting
- Clearing data and cache
- Deleting the app that I first got the issue on
- Deleting recently downloaded photos

We didn't!

Gallery
(pick a folder, then a photo)
(three dot menu upper right)
Set as

Select 'wallpaper'.
ah! thanks! I came across another issue, though. Whilst trying to get the video on drive, I decided to use my phone to upload the video to drive. Drive upload requires the Files app to upload files. I mean, I could maybe use the website, but it still is a hassle, and a few google websites have the "get the app version" of the website.

No.
Share the video.

A menu with share options appears, and you select wht app you desire- in this case it would be Drive.

The cool thing here, is that you can (by long press) pin apps to the top of the list, or else they eventually will order themselves by the frequency of their use.

So the apps you share with the most appear at the top of the list.

Oh! So I could basically do everything, but within the file manager app itself? I think that should basically solve my issue for now. And I am getting a new phone sometime during Christmas. Really eyeing the Google Pixel lineup. Thanks for all your help y'all! I've contacted like 2 other communities and go no response. Thank you so much!!!

No problem.

Just remember, that with a new device, there will be a whole new list of crappy stock apps floating in that punchbowl.

Keep Simple Mobile Tools in mind.

Oh, crap!

I just may have figured it out, or part of it.

You have more than one user on the device?

Like a work profile?

And it works fine on one profile- but not the other?

Then you need the app in question to be in BOTH profiles.

When you set up the work profile, if that is what you did, all needed stock apps were automatically copied.

But, you then said that you deleted it.

That is a red flag, because you cannot delete stock system apps- unless you are rooted- or unless you have deleted the copied app from the work profile.

So, in your apps list within your settings -if you have a work profile set up- in the setting selection for 'show all apps, show system apps, show disabled apps', there should also be a setting for 'show work profile apps'.

Then all of the required system apps will show up twice, with a little toolbox icon for the ones in the work profile.

I bet that 'files' is missing the copy with the toolbox icon.

Of course, now none of this matters, as you have better apps now anyway, lol.

The work app was fine, just the one on my personal/admin user. Doesn't matter anyways as you stated tho, thanks!
