Android for PC/laptop

onyxweb

Lurker
OK! So, I'm sick of Vista - W7 is ok, so I thought I'd u/g my Vista system to W7...then I thought, what about Android on my desktop & laptop?

When will it be available as a PC installation?

It IS going to happen, but when?

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

B

Er...what's Akilwood Android v03?

Thanks,

B

Google returns no relevant results for it...

Anyway, you might see Android on a pc, but to be honest, it wouldn't do a good job.
Android is a mobile operating system. Phones and computers are two distinctly different things. They operate differently. You don't use a computer in exactly the same way as you use your phone. This is reflected in the OS.

If you want a different desktop OS, try Ubuntu.

you can run Android on a PC as a VM, but the set up is kind of tortuous. and you don't really get much out of the deal.

I would second the Linux recommendation. Keep in mind that even in Linux you won't be able to run Android apps.

Well I never used android application in vista ... So Can't really help you in this. :(
But If I will get any kinda of information then I will surely get back to you

I installed Android here. Without a front end or command line option it's pretty useless.

I've also had Android running on a PC. I would say it's rather useless and awkward here as well, as a PC is neither a phone or a touch screen tablet.

If you're looking for something besides Windows, look into Linux. You can try before installing through either a LiveCD or a bootable USB stick (head to unetbootin for a great way to try a few distros). Either Ubuntu or Mint are good places to start.
