Help android google chrome doesn't save last open pages

S.5 updated Android to 5. and since then google chrome no long saves my last tabs/pages so in order to open, I have to go to last pages and sign in, navigate, etc. extra steps. I am not liking the extra steps. Is there any way around this - the resident professional geek and I have done our best but neither of us have been able to find the fix. Is there one?
