Hi there. I want to use my Android 4.4.2 device as a GPS only on a 5 day hike in the wilderness. There will be no requirement for any other functionality. How do I shut down all services on the phone except the 1 app and gps to get maximum battery life?

Hi

It may not be the case with your phone, but my note2 still allows GPS to work when its in airplane mode - this of course shuts down all the phones transmitters which saves a lot.

Turn off sync on the drop down - should stop apps from trying to sync in the back ground.

Most important, take a paper map & compass etc. You can get lightweight wind up phone chargers for emergencies.

Be wary that sometimes carriers require a data connection to enable certain Navigational functions, this would decrease your battery life greatly.

However, the airplane mode option should still allow GPS to work.
