Help Android home screen?

I know on some older HTC devices you could clear the defaults for the HTC Sense home screen and switch to the android home screen. That doesn't seem to be an available option on the evo v 4g. In fact, when I go to "apps" in my settings, the android "home" isn't even listed.

Is there a workaround to be able to turn off HTC Sense UI and use the regular android ice cream sandwich home screen? It's almost like the android home launcher wasn't even loaded on to this device during conception.

The vanilla launcher is not included in our phones because of Sense.
Just try a different launcher like Apex launcher that has a vanilla feel to it.

I'm personally a fan of Nova Launcher. Nova Launcher Prime is perfect IMO because it allows you to turn off every single animation effect of the launcher UI in addition to adding swiping gestures. Apex and Nova are the two main ICS-specific custom launchers you'll want to check out.
