Android HTC Phone with Bluetooth Keyboard

I purchased a Mini Bluetooth keyboard that came with an Android application to drive it. The instructions say the application needs to connect one time to the internet. When I click the OK for the app to connect, it fails. I am connected to a WiFi and I can google....all sorts of internet actions. What gives?

I know Bluetooth keyboards do not work well (if at all) with HTC phones, due to HTC sense inhibiting Bluetooth functionality. What specific phone and app/keyboard are you trying to use?
