Android/iOS Returns

I don't doubt that androids handset have a higher return rate than iphone, but 30-40% ?? That's ridiculous. No manufacturer can survive with that kind of return rate. Not to mention carriers would refuse to sell them, which clearly is not the case.

No details about which specific devices they are. The reports say it is "some" Android devices. There are a great many different Android devices to choose from. Some are better than others. Just don't take this to mean all devices.

I don't think this is a secret at all. Android is an army of phones and some phones are the drones that have no chance with average consumers. Some phones are poorly built and I wouldn't hesitate to return them too.

This is one of the things that I understand why Apple is so restrictive with their products. For the most part, Apple has control of everything in regards to their product. Which adds to quality control which is great for consumers? I've always wondered how the cellphone landscape would look like if Apple decided to sell their OS to other manufacturers like Google.

Is there information which phones have the highest return rates for an Android device?

This is a very sneaky aritcle. The article says that "some" Android devices have 30-40% return rates. Then it goes on to say Samsung sells a bunch of phone. It's like the article is trying to mislead the reader into thinking that Samsung phones have high return rates.

Yup, very sneaky! I googled it and this article is being circulated like crazy. I find that they some articles mention the high return rates for the HTC TB which doesn't surprise me due to the issues with 4G when the phone was released.

Is it just me, or do you notice the acrid smell of Apples marketing department around here?

My guess? And it's purely a guess. The iphones true return rate is quite a bit higher than 1.7% and Androids overall return rate is way lower than 30%. I wouldn't be suprised at all if some of the low end generic android tablet makers have return rates that high, but the manufacturers that compete with apple (HTC,Samsung ,Motorola,LG) ? Not even close.

Funny read .
Sources also indicate Buying an iphone results in permanent baldness .
Ofcourse my source is the cosmetic surgeon who treats baldness.

Even if the rate of return is 30-40%, does it say whether or not they are being returned for other Android devices?

It's no secret that some people love certain devices and others hate those same ones.
So if I return a fascinate, but get a Thunderbolt, or my girlfriend returns the charge but gets the my touch 4G, android is android, yes?

I think it's time to stop comparing sales by operating system and start comparing sales at the handset level. I know Google doesn't want to do that but maybe in the future they should start comparing Iphone sales versus Nexus sales.

I think the Galaxy S and the Droid series can do well enough by themselves. They can stand on their own two feet to battle the Nexus and Iphone lines, if needed.

Wouldn't that be a better comparison anyways?

Depends on what you're looking to accomplish with a comparison. "Better" doesn't really mean much without context. You're not going to get consumers to stop comparing Android devices as a group to iOS devices. I doubt that those considering the iPhone really tend to be the types that want the benefits of the Nexus line over other Android devices. Again, the context of the comparison matters.

How if your guess any better than the linked article? If you're refuting the article then your guess isn't the way to effectively refute it.
