Android is far better than Apple iOS

Please everyone warn anyone NOT to get ipads or iphones with iOS/iCloud. I deleted a picture and called to see how to retrieve it from my paid icloud "backup".
AppleTech support confessed icloud does not keep a copy it syncs and deletes it as you delete as long as you are interneti-connected iCloud is a NOT a backup that works AS a proper user manageable backup workds to preserve files.
Ipad/iphone have no ports and my Samsung Charge from 6/11 is better designed . I will now sell iPad received as a gift cheaply and get a galaxy note or tab or an Asus.
>> A backup is a backup and NO ONE should let their loved ones rely on iPad if they want to keep a backup of files -- THAT SHOULD BE EASY ( Icloud is NOT a backup it is a synchronizer that unless you are fast and turn off icloud or wifi right away in settings , your file is GONE!)
iOS = idiotic operating system, iPad no ports
Ipad and Iphone are backup accidents just waiting to happen.
Apple says they should warn customers in iPad boxes to install iTunes on a PC to prevent this if at all possible but they do not. IOS IS a SHAM AND IT WILL NOT WORK as you need it. Please it might be nice looking (?) but do not buy it
Thank you Android devices for providing seriously better (nothing is perfect but backup needs to be) products with PORTS and basic logic with endusers in mind.
Thank you for reading as I am free of even thinking of using any iOS device as a personal reliable digital device.

Welcome tomnyc!
Glad to have you here :)
I know not alot about Apple products but that is very interesting to know!
I never had an Apple product, but strictly Android. :)
I moved your thread here for more discussion to take place about it as it looks to be an interesting subject :)

Thanks for joining!

I knew your "strictly android" line smelled a bit fishy :p ;)

Hi Tom. Mike & Slayer....ya'll got issues! :D

Tom, I feel your pain. I don't have anything against Apple and I have too many of their products so I'm not one who can say they don't work.

Based on your post it sounds like you went into this completely uninformed. Also, iCloud is not enabled by default. It's a user setting you have to turn on.
Further, there's an option to disabling syncing automatically which has to be enabled by the user. I've removed things from my device that didn't get removed from the cloud.

At any time did you have your precious memories backup to an external drive or some sort? Personally, that's the path I would've taken then and continue to do. I'm one who doesn't put my trust solely on the cloud.

And believe me when I tell you, that everything on my android phone is also stored on physical media. The cloud whether it's an iOS device or Android is not perfect.

The caveat: I do not use iCloud. As always, corrections are welcome.

So here is my issue. Does the TOS or something else say iCloud does not back up or keep copies of your files? That it works the way it wants to work and it does not work the way you only think it should work?

Perhaps your complaint against Apple/iCloud is not really fair and you were e-told it works the way it works and not the way you only think it should work. These days, I am forced into reading EULAs, the TOS and the basic instructions just to avoid complicated issues and problems.

Nothing seems to work the way I think it should work.

I keep backups on my laptop and on a DVD, so I do not worry about how on-line backups work or do not work. I use Dropbox for Teams, so there is more space than I'll ever use.

Seems to me, iCloud should let you store a backup set. I could easily use Dropbox to store my backups. Can't you make a backup and upload it to iCloud? Forget how iCloud automatically does this or that and simply upload a zip file?

To be fair to Apple, they did save me without my knowing it. My music, books and applications (iPad) are there waiting for me when I need to install them again. Even the free crap is made available and even my .50 cent iTunes Gift Card balance is still there.

Seems I recall that iCloud will not backup some things you did not purchase through iTunes. I think Google or Amazon does the same thing. But I do not know for sure.

Stuff I did not remember buying fills my iPad with push-button ease. Even 'Mexico' (James Taylor) is still there waiting for me. It was the first song I bought when I was using my iPod. Years ago, actually.

I think iCloud does work for many people. Perhaps just not the way you think it should work. Then again, I would not be surprised to learn it truly stinks.
