Android Jellybean (4.2.x)

Hi guys,

I've just rooted my S2 for the first time following the guide on here and currently have CheckROM installed, which appears to be Ginger bread Android. I'm after a ROM that has the stock Android UI, not the Samsung UI (touchwiz?) and would like the latest version of Android too which I believe is Jellybean 4.2.x.

Can anyone tell me the best way to achieve this? Preferably with a dummies guide.

Also, once I've found a suitable ROM can I just install it over CheckROM? Some places say I need a JellyBean kernal as well?

Thank you

Hennree

U said you are already rooted , aren't you?
If u r asking how to flash a custom ROM then the exact ROM thread is the way to go.u can find ur answers there.
Anyway, first u have to be rooted [ which u already are ] , then copy the ROM file in your internal sd card, take a ''/efs'' folder backup, titanium backup, nandroid backup and boot into recovery. [vol up+home+power button]
wipe data, format system, format preload one by one
or alternatively u can flash Hawker's full wipe script : http://androidforums.com/3791682-post1.html
right after this flash your desired ROM and reboot.

I went here http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?t=554062

It's been very helpful and got me on 4.1.2

You can check out http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/554062-neat-rom.html by SaleSale as Lucky13 mentioned.
see if u like it or not.
NeatROM is based on stock android UI .

You can flash any ROM over CheckROM but before that u should do a Titanium backup, nandriod backup and full wipe.

Every ROM comes with built-in Kernel. so u don't need kernel separately when flashing a ROM, it will get installed automatically when installing ROM.
But if u prefer, u can flash a Kernel of your choice after flashing a ROM.

Don't forget to do your research before flashing anything.

As OP wants stock Android and not Sammy, then I would recommend RootBox, which is AOKP with many more extras over stock AOSP, and is 4.2.1.

However, its not without its problems, the biggest of which is bluetooth/audio sound drop-outs (which is the reason I dont use it), and some users are also reporting non-working GPS

If you do decide on a Sammy ROM, then Neat is an excellent choice, but my choice of Sammy ROM (which has been my daily runner for many months) is Alliance ROM, which comes with a AOKP theme as standard, making it visually very close to stock Android.

Decided to go with Avatar ROM. Seems decent so far.

One thing I've noticed moving to this from the latest Samsung UI, is that the text on screen doesn't seem to be as crisp. It seems bolder with more anti-aliasing... hard to explain :P

After a day of use, I've noticed the battery drain is massive.

I may revert back to my stock rom and completely unroot for now.

Does anyone know where to find a Virgin Mobile UK stock rom? I've had a look around and can only find Virgin Mobile Australia / NZ.

Thanks
