Android L: Cannot use any apps.

Installed Android 5.0 Lollipop on my nexus 5 Friday the 21st of November. Did it 'the normal' way, by just updating the system. At first, everything worked fine, but now I'm having a lot of trouble and I can barely use my phone anymore:
- When I return to the homescreen, it takes around 5 seconds to load the app icons.
- Apps like Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Snapchat automatically close a couple of seconds after I open them.
- Cannot use the Camera app, when I press to take a picture, the app crashes and closes.
- I only seem to receive about half the text messages people send me. And when I do receive them, I'm not notified, so I have to open Hangouts to check if I might have any messages.
- Other apps lag, or load incompletely. Lots of other very irritating problems.

With all these troubles, I can barely use my phone anymore. I'm not completely sure they are related with updating my system to Android L, but I do think so because: 1. Other people with a Nexus 5 and Android L I know do also have the lag on the homescreen when it loads the icons (however, it only takes about 1 second to load them and not 5 seconds) and 2. I read on the internet that the apps closing themselves might have something to do with them not being compatible with ART, however none of the other people I know have do have this problem.

Like I said, I can barely 'use' the phone anymore so any help is appreciated. If you need more info, I will try to provide it, but I'm not very 'digital native' so when things get techy, please help me :).

EDIT: I did already change my runtime from Dalvik to ART on Android Kitkat 4.4. Don't know if this has something to do with the problem, but just providing some information...

Factory reset the phone. Your phone will still be on lollipop. It's unofficially the recommended thing to do after a huge os update. It should sort everything out.
 
I wanted to factory reset but first I wanted to back-up my files. I tried to just plug my phone in my PC and copy the files I wanted to back-up onto my hard drive, but every time I try to do this my Windows Explorer crashes. No idea why... Should I back-up in a different way? Should I enable/disable something on my phone to make copying possible? I've already looked through the settings menu but my phone keeps closing all the tabs I open in the settings menu so I can't change any settings...
 
Maybe try copying just a few folders at a time. Windows explorer crashes for me if I try and copy and paste too many files from phone to computer.
 
I tried to, but the problem is that my phone seems 'inaccesable'. When I open e.g. my 9GAG folder, which has over 1000 photo's, my PC will load 30. I then try to refresh the page and load all of them, but then Windows Explorer crashes. When I try again, it won't even load the files that are in the 'internal storage' of my Nexus 5, so it just says 'no items found' whilst there is 5GB of information on my device... I really don't know what to do anymore. Also looked at the auto-backup of my pictures but it seems that only a fraction of my pictures are back-uped automatically... So still need to make a 'manual' back-up...
 
It's getting ridicolous... I can't open a File Manager or Picture Viewer app long enough before it closes to even select photos and upload them. Sometimes I can select them, but then the app closes again and my progress is lost. I'm just going to take my phone to a support office. Thanks for your help anyway :p
 
FINAL EDIT: So, beforing uploading this post, I had already tried rebooting my phone. A couple of hours ago however, I shut it down and took my SIM-card out (because I wanted to use it in another phone since this one wasn't working properly anymore). Then I put my Nexus 5 away, after an hour rebooted it without the SIM-card, and it worked fine. Put the SIM back in, still worked. Weird that it didn't work the first time I turned it off and on, but my problem is solved so I'm not complaining.

This post can be closed/deleted, as my problem is solved.
