Help android lag

hello everyone. i'm new here and i have a question that has probably been discussed everywhere, but i have a problem with my home screen and apps lagging. I have used every cleaner app, even though they don't work. When i play a gba game on myboy I get choppy sound. I have kingroot and purify, could they be slowing my device? I got rid of most of my bloatware apps as well. I'm at a loss. I can't afford to buy a new phone with more RAM. I was wondering if there is a way to increase my memory without upgrading. my cpu is dual core 1.6 ghz. i have less than 400 mb of ram. Its a low end phone, but I don't use a lot of apps, and have no data, just wifi. could someone please help?

As you say, the various cleaners don't work and are likely to be counter-productive. I had to look up "Purify", but the fact that the description misused the term "memory leak" did put me off it, and it doesn't sound like something I would use myself. Have you tried disabling or removing it? What OS version are you running anyway?

There's a lot more to CPUs than number of cores and max clock speed, but it's been a long time since anyone marketed dual core SoCs so I think we can safely assume that those are low-powered cores. But I think it more likely that 400MB RAM is your problem: that's less than my 2010 phone had. Now the people who released "My Boy" claim it runs on low spec devices, but I've not found a statement of how low. There is absolutely nothing you can do to increase this though - "RAM booster" apps are just task-killers trying to rebrand, and trying to use storage as "virtual memory" will just slow you down even more. If there were a more stripped down custom ROM for your device that might help a little, but most low-key devices get little or no ROM development. If you don't have a custom recovery (which lets you back up the ROM) I suggest that you do not attempt to fiddle with the ROM.

thanks for the reply. my os is android 4.4 kitkat. the model is lgl34c, and I have yet to find a custom rom for it. i uninstalled purify, but still the phone lags. there has to be an app that stops processes from running in the background. i'll try greenify and see how it works.

Stopping processes running in the background is counterintuitive, and actually makes the phone slower. What exactly are installed and active on your phone?

As for lag, well you're running 2011 specs on 2017. You're phone is expected to lag.

Sounds like the Myboy GBA emulator is just too much for such a lowly device to run properly, without stuttering and lagging. Game console emulators often are quite intensive and demanding.

I know Myboy runs great on my Oppo R9 Plus, and the late Samsung Note7 as well :)

my apps running are :
settings, sim toolkit, software update, alarm/clock, android core apps, kingroot, and LG keyboard.
272mb used 143mb free.
Can I remove sim toolkit and softeare update? I don't use google playstore due to an error when my downloads get stuck. I use apkpure app. I don't think i need sim toolkit since i have no service. It seems like it lags more in the morning, but that can't be right.

Personally I wouldn't put much more effort into trying to get this device to outperform it's spec's because as others have said, it's not going to happen. Memory cleaners, task killers, performance enhancer apps are all just smoke and mirrors. They will hurt performance much more that it helps. Think of it this way ... there is no kind of gas you can put into a Toyota Celica that will get it to pull a 40' camper up a hill in 4th gear. ;)

Seriously, you'd be better off looking for a better phone. You really can find some new or used ones in the sub-$200 range that will run circles around what you've got now.
