How can I lock my Android 2.1 phone so that every time after the power is turned off a password is needed to use it?

Thanks.

I can only see the option of "set unlock pattern" but not unlock password?
I would prefer password over unlock pattern.
Thanks.

What phone model? You normally get options of pattern, pin or password, though I only had 2.1 for a few weeks in 2010 so can't remember whether that was more limited.

Unfortunately if the option isn't available under {Settings > Security > Screen lock > Password} - then am afraid your Android version or device doesn't support that feature.

2.1 did not have any way of locking the phone other then the pattern. PINs and passwords were introduced in later versions.

OP, you could always look into rooting and flashing a newer version of Android.

The phone is Acer beTouch E130. People all over the net say three options are available in android2.1. However, there is one thread where an OP says his client has this very problem. He said that upgrade to 2.2 was available so he would try to see it that prob persisted after the upgrade (and the thread just did not continue after that). Unfortunately upgrade is not available in my case (I already upgraded from 1.6 to 2.1), unless I root the phone or what.

The phone is Acer beTouch E130. Could you please suggest some resources such as ISOs and tutorials of how I can root the phone to upgrade?

I have found this:

Upgrade/Update Acer beTouch E130 to Android 2.2 Froyo - Android App Development | Upgrade Update Android - www.upgrade-update-android.info

But it seems fishy, even after the sentences of "here are the links to the images" there are not any links.

Also, are there any disadvantages in rooting the phone?

Thanks.
