Android lost

It's good, but I think it's not very useful for such tools. Because, most users will set a screen lock for their phone. So if I pick your phone, I can't use your phone at all, so I will do a factory reset fot it soon, such tool won't work at all. If user didn't set a screen lock, I will find your app in the desktop, and I will reset all too.

I don't think it's possible to remotely install an app.


Prey does all of these things, and has a proven track record. Search for Prey on the market or go to preyproject.com

Sure you can. If you go to the Android Market website on your PC (market.android.com), you can sign in, pick an app to install, and have it sent to your phone and it will install remotely. Did this many times with my Droid X when it was running Froyo, and just verified that it still works with Gingerbread.

It doesn't actually work for me through the website. I've tried. The only option I have for a phone is greyed out and I can't select it.

So it requires no action on the phone at all? No need to agree to the permissions or press OK or anything?



Still, I wouldn't trust it for a lost or stolen phone. If the phone is off or has no data connection, there would be no way to push the install.
 
It shows a notification just as a normal install would.

Edit: I mean the Market, not sure about this app specifically
 
Lookout's Plan B is a different app than their AV, it's a remote wipe/lock thing that you remotely install via the usual Android Market I think -- though I cant imagine this fooling a moderately savy theif, though criminals tend to be dumb - so ya never know ;)
