Help Android Market and other apps not working PLEASE HELP

I have an Alcatel OT-981a and my android market and several other apps are not working. My phone is only a few months old and I can't add any widgets to the home screens either. My phone is running on version 2.2.1. Please help :(
 
long press on home screen...a screen will pop up with a list...one of them is "add widget". Press that and you will see a list of widgets you can add to the home screen. You ned to have enough room on the screen for the widget to appear
