Android Market Data Uses Too Much Memory

Newbie
Deleting an application results in having more memory available in your G1. But doing so does not affect the memory used by the Market app; in fact, the memory used by the app grows over time and there seems to be no way to clear the data, or is there a way?

It appears that when you uninstal an app ... It leaves behind the listing of the .apk pkg in the listing of downloads ... I dont know if this also means that the package is left on the phone ... if this is the case, with no way to purge them ...then we will all eventually run out of System memory ... ????? we need technical link to a google development forum so Google gets direct complaints ... otherwise how are the collecting all these bug-reports ... the machine doesnt seem to have any way of reporting bugs or crashs ... who knows if TMobile does ... but it is the vested interest at stake ..

hmmmmm this is an excellent thread and I really hope we are not the only ones watching. There absolutely needs to be a place where all this info is being viewed so that these bugs can be dealt with!

The market app will "purge" itself if you get low on memory. You do have to manually clear the browser cache, but the market is automatic.

If you don't want to wait for that to happen, a hard reset will also do it and it is relatively painless compared to a hard reset on windows mobile :)

I have no answer for you about why someone got to zero. The first time I got the low memory error, I cleared my browser. The second time, I installed a few apps (to try to force the market cache to clear) and the market cache cleared itself, from 15 mb to 300k.

That person was me that got to zero. After the market cache cleared itself, I continued to install applications.

So what was those few apps you installed and exactly did you do to clear cache? Please share with us.
