Android market for rooted and banned apps coming up

Just saw this page & thought many here would like to read it too. :)
Koushik Dutta has been known best by his alias, Koush in the Android development and modding scene, since a long time now. He’s been very much at the heart of Android ROM modding and especially for his ClockworkMod ROM Manager that’s used in installing custom ROMs on Android devices. Koushik has bigger plans now. In a Google+ post by him, he talks about plans of launching a separate app store designed for rooted apps. While Google’s Android app store exists, apps designed specifically for rooted and modded phones don’t exist. Google does some housekeeping and some of these apps present on the app store are removed from time to time. These apps are then hosted on forums and other sites for people to download. There’s no simple well organized app on Android that lets you access these apps.

There is talk of someone already taking the domain name and using it without Koush's permission. Be careful, as his app store isn't up yet.

I'm glad they're going their own way rather than adopting the Amazon store. I got tired of the notifications that I have X number of uninstalled apps on my account.

Why would we want the banned apps there is a reason why they were banned.

I have a couple of apps on my phone right now that we're banned from the market. Also I am sure the CM market will allow you to access the apps that may have been blocked by your carrier (for example tethering apps that you can't download on the market because the carrier has requested google block them)

I think this is a great idea and look forward to having it on my phone!

This is interesting. I wonder what they will do about screening the apps that are being submitted. I would hate to see them make a big deal about this then release something that becomes a warez market. I am not saying that is the intention and hope they are going to put steps in place to prevent that from happening.

I agree. It sounds like a really great concept, especially if someone reasonably watchdogs it and boots out the 'crap apps' that tend to fill up the Android Market site. From the aspect of banned apps, maybe someone can set up a firewalled test bed to certify that they were not banned because of malware payloads, etc. but only banned because someone asked that Google not host them.
