Android Market not downloading apps

Hey everyone,

I'm a new HTC Hero owner - just bought the phone yesterday.

I have downloaded apps from the Android Market, but last night and today, my phone will get into a state where I will select an app to download, it will tell me to watch the notification bar for download status, and nothing will happen.

If I select the app in the store to look at the download progress, it just says: "downloading...." with the animated bar, but never downloads.

I tried turning off the phone and turning it back on, and that seemed to correct the problem for one download, but then subsequent downloads won't start up.

I have barely installed any apps on it, and I'm not really sure what the problem is.

Is this a known issue with the Android Market, or do I have something wrong with my phone? Has anyone else encountered this and know why it's happening?

I'm not 100% on "Market issue", but I know you're not alone. I have the same issue and have found that switching on/off wifi and/or switching between edge and 3G seem to "shock" the phone into refreshing the download process.

Hm, interesting. I wouldn't expect that type of behavior from the centerpiece of an Android phone.

Have you noticed any other strange behavior your phone starts having when the downloads from the Market stop working? Or has it been isolated only to the downloads?

Thanks for the tip about switching on / off wifi or mobile internet. That's much less invasive than turning off the phone completely, and a step I'm willing to take to fix it.

I'd still like to find out why it's happening.

Just the not-downloading issue. Hasn't seemed to affect the phone in any other capacity.
