Android Media Box for a demo

Hope to get some help on a demo I have coming up.

Goal: Play video(s) on a TV from a box that's connected via HDMI. Video files need to be on this box. An android app needs to control video playback on this box.

I'm thinking a decent Android TV box like Minix Neo U9 can do the job. Though I have never used one, any suggestions? Can a device like Minix do the job? I have the ability to create a custom app on an android device to send command to the box connected to TV.

A device like that will certainly be able to play videos into a TV via HDMI. You may want to use a different and more capable video player app like Kodi, VLC or MX, instead of using the whatever it is stock one,

If you can do that, even better. Although devices like the Minix usually come with their own IR zappers anyway. If you have Kodi or VLC on the Minix, there's some remote control apps already available for those, like Kore which can remotely control Kodi, which uses WiFi rather than IR.

Thanks mikedt. IR control is not an option. I need this video box to play certain video on it's HD from an independent android device running custom app via LTE on LAN. Can a device like Minix do this task?
