Android movies UK

So lots of hype in the press about Android Movies being launched in the UK. Great I thought, so I go into the market to download the movie app and get the message that its not compatible with my phone (sim free DHD). Anybody got a view as to why?

I have the same problem.

I am up to date on everything (2.3, new market place etc), my phone isn't rooted, and yet, still no movies. I can't download the 'Videos' app, saying it's 'incompatible'.

People had said that it would only work on phones with big enough HD screens???!!! Erm...isn't that what a DHD has got?!

I have seen on other forums that people with Xoom tablets as well as other high end handsets, cannot access the Videos app either, and no one seems to know why...

I contacted Google they wrote back to say the problem is with some HTC phones. It is a problem that HTC is aware of and are working on a fix with Google! I have also contacted HTC and am waiting for them to get back to me.

Reply from HTC:

"Thank you for your email regarding watching movies on your Desire HD, and I am sorry this is not possible for you at this moment in time.

Any update to the HTC Desire HD with regard to watching movies will be made available on our HTC.com website, Facebook page and Twitter. I am sorry that I cannot tell you the status of these developments at the moment."

Let's hope they rectify it soon! I am keen to use the movies feature...after all, that was one of the main reasons why I bought a phone with such a large screen in the first place, to take advantage of features like that!

They'll be pushing HTC watch, which is an obvious rival to Android movies

I didnt even know about this until after I rooted my phone and put on a custom rom 3 weeks ago and noticed an app called 'watch'.

I havent purchased anything but its all working.

As for the Google video. I have the App but once I click on a movie it goes through to market and just says 'item not avaliable'.

HTC watch is a streaming service , the Android ones allows you to download. This is great from travelling on a budget flight etc, its one of the reasons I got a large screen phone.
