Android mp3 player > 100 GB: does any exist?

Hi all,

I have a music collection of ca. 100 GB.

I would like a small mp3 player with the following:
- 100-120 GB at least
- bluetooth
- integrated speaker
- the possibility to search music using a keyboard (searching a 100 GB library on the ipod classic is a pain)
- ideally no proprietary cables (i.e. either standard ipod cables or standard micro-usb)

I'm not interested in recording, wifi, video playback, big screens or fancy formats. Does such a player even exist?

The only one that comes close I know of is the 160 GB Cowon X7 ([ Digital Pride COWON ]), but it's bulky and has proprietary cables.

Thanks!

PS If a 120 GB microsd card were available, I would use that in my smartphone and not even bother with a separate mp3 player!

100gigs is a shitload of music
onlything i can think of is getting a 32gig phone or tablet (some tablets take regular size sd cards so u can get a 64gig 100 gig w/e)
add a 32 gig sd card and utilize google music cloud i think 25 gigs not sure if u can buy more ?
def look in to cloud storage like drop box and amazon/google music

edithttps://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/learnmore
amazon mp3 offers cloud storage up to 1000gigs for a price
for a limeted time they are offering UNLIMITED STORAGE FOR MUSIC!!!! for 20 $ a year!
that means 100S of gigs im def looking in to this
amazing!
i love amazons mp3 app/store
i use the 5 free gigs myself

I have 7000 songs, and it's only 33 GB. How do you have 100 GB of music? More importantly, how do you have 100 GB of music that you actually want to listen to. A bunch of those 7000 songs I have is stuff my wife likes that I don't like.

here is the only solution I can come up with. I think it was system digital that has developed a cloud drive aka hard drive you can access over the net (hopefully your home connection will holdout) that wah you can have 500 gig of storage space you can access. I don't know if the iPods get up to the 100gig I know my bro has one that is old but 80 gig so you might want to try those if the cloud drive does not work for you.

Sure, I cannot listen to every single song every single minute, but I like to have my whole collection with me in a small gadget. The 160 GB ipod classic lets me do that, even if it doesn't tick my other boxes. I guess I can settle for that, wait for a 128 GB ipod touch, which will however surely be expensive, or buy a 64 GB microsd card for my Galaxy SII and settle for not having my whole collection with me.

I want to avoid could-based solutions because I want access to my collection regardless of a data connection (i.e. on the underground, on a plane, abroad, etc).

Incidentally, this makes me wonder why there are so few Android players or tablets with a hard drive and capacity > 64 GB. Most seem to be between 8 and 32 GB, which is probably fine for most music collections, but nowadays 8 GB mean a couple of HD movies and a handful of apps, not much more than that.

TBH I think mobile devices with mechanical HDD storage are really going away now. I didn't know about the Cowon, thought the only HDD PMP now was the iPod Classic. Flash RAM is getting cheaper all the time, may well be resonably priced 128GB PMP available next year.

Well, but not just yet. And, even if a 120 GBP flash player becomes available next year, it will still be way more expensive than an HD player. For example, a 250 GB Archos HD tablet will set you back about

No, it doesn't exist. I looked on both Amazon and NewEgg. There was an older Archos player from 2008 that was about US$250 and got only so-so reviews. Apart from the iPod Classic and the Cowon player you mentioned, there's nothing current out there with over 100 GB of storage.

I'm sorry, but you're kind of a niche market if not a total outlier. Most people do not have 100 GB of music, let alone want to carry all 100 GB with them at all times.

Thanks anyway!

Yes, I know that's the case when it comes to music-only players.

However, I thought I wasn't the only one who might have needed more than 8 GB on a video-capable multimedia player or tablet: after all, 8 GB means only a couple of HD videos, yet most tablets seem to have exactly this storage capacity. A Cowon player I bought in 2007 had about 50 GB of storage, just to make an example...

You are kind of an exceptional case, but I've also noticed a trend in decreasing storage capacity. It used to be quite common for MP3 players to have 30-80 GB of storage. Now we see 32 GB of storage seen as some kind of monstrous beast that you have to pay a premium for.

I think part of it has to do with a push Amazon, Apple, and Google are all making for cloud-based media consumption, which makes no sense to me, as wireless providers and cable/DSL companies are complaining about people using too much bandwidth. If I have to pay for bandwidth (and thus cutting out so-called "unlimited" plans), why would I want to stream my media? I'm essentially paying more money just to listen to music I already own or watch movies I already own.

Fortunately for me, I have only about 12 GB of music I really like that I keep permanently on my Galaxy Nexus, which still has plenty of room to spare after that. I've amassed this collection of music over literally decades, so I don't see myself running out of storage in the foreseeable future.

100 GB is not out of the realm of possibility.

I, alone, have purchased about 120GB just from Amazon music store alone in the last 2 years. I just checked. I have around 600GB last count.

In fact, I just signed up to Apple's iTunes Match so Apple is kindly up-rezzing all my cheap 96k, 128k rips from 10 years ago to 256k AAC for a measley $25.00.
That means by the time I finish downloading from Apple's iCloud, my music collection will be over a terabyte of legit music. That $25 is the best investment I made.

People's musical taste can change on a daily basis. I change playlists all the time so It is easy to have a lot of music and quickly listen and change a lot.

One day, I may be into Spanish ambience which is about 80GB right there. Or, I will switch to French Downtempo which is around 120GB right there.

I put the music to shuffle.

Good luck finding an Android mp3 player. The OP needs one with a physcal HDD drive.

I'm constantly changing my playlists, filling up and removing tracks from my 160GB iPod Classic. Even 160GB mp3 player is not enough for me. I ended just using the cloud. Apple has about a terabyte stored for me. Google's music service also has another 300GB on their Google music cloud. Heck, I might just open up another Google account to upload more music to another cloud.
