Android Noob. Should I install ICS or use GB first?

Hi everyone,

I just ordered the Note from Amazon and have been reading as much as possible to try to get caught up on Android. I'm coming from the iPhone world and I have zero experience with Android so please understand my noobness :)

With ICS being available now, should I install it before using the note with GB?
Seems like some people are not happy with ICS and I am concerned that I may not as well. But if I install ICS, then I will never have a chance to see if I like GB or not.

Thoughts?

I moved from an iPhone myself 4 or 5 months ago. Updating to ICS at this very moment.
My opinion: install ICS. Why not?
Would you buy a PC with Windows Vista installed in case you didn't like Windows 8, when not knowing anything about either?

It is certainly true that there have been a number of people complaining about ICS on this forum, but then there were quite a number before them complaining about Gingerbread.

The advantage you have is that you have an untouched phone so the update should go as smoothly for you as for anyone. I personally am not updating my phone for the reason that ICS does nothing that I need and my phone is currently working perfectly.

I hope this helps...

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

Updated my phone early this AM...extremely pleased & highly recommend it. Picked several functions/features that I had lost when I moved from the iPhone. No problems with the update. Had to reload my exchange email.
Phone seems a little faster & much smoother. FYI...my phone is bone stock, not rooted or booted or anything like that.

That's good to know.
I'm still waiting for my phone but I've downloaded the software on my desktop and it's ready to go.
I'm not planning on rooting at least for now. Just want a good solid phone with no lags or hesitations.

I'm really excited about the Note and am so tired of the iPhone's tiny screen.
Will report my initial thoughts after I get a chance to play around with it.

ICS gives you more robust controls compared to GB, that's why I love ICS.

Hmm, I have not found a need for extra controls (but then I have a 5gb data tarrif and just a slow down after that). Also, I use the force and the phone simply does what I want ;)

UPDATE:

Phone now has ICS and everything seems to be good.
Only thing I'm not 100% sure about is battery life as I never really tested it out on GB.
Currently getting about 16 hours on moderate usage, which is better than my old iPhone 4S.
Also I don't think I'm on 4G LTE in my area cause the speeds feel like 3G speeds of 1 - 1.5 MBs.

So far happy with the Note. Selling my iPhone on eBay now.

I had a month or so of Gingerbread before updating to ICS. Worked fine for me, although I haven't actually found much of a difference. That may just be down to which apps I use of course.
