Android not loading

Hi guys, i have a big problem with a non-specific brand Android Tablet it appears to be running kitkat v4.2 it is not mine but a friends i said i would see if i could fix it for him. As it stands i have tried so far power button plus - vol button which loads the android icon but then the device goes to black screen. Plugged in tablet with - vol button held down to see if i could get a cold boot, no joy. Strange thing is when i plug it in via mains adapter it actually boots and works normally. So i am now at a loss on what to do with this thing, am thinking of telling my mate to RMA it pronto, i mean i told him they are probably dodgy anyway. Hopefully you knowledgeable folks here at Android can help me shed light on this problem, many thanks in advance. Oh and i have used a system reset and used the little reset button on the top, and deleted the cache.

If it boots normally when on mains power it's not likely to be a software fault. It's hard to be sure when trying to diagnose remotely, and I've never heard of this set of symptoms before, but if I had to guess I'd suspect a problem with the power supply/battery.

You've done all the resets you can, so to be honest I'd return it if I were you.
