Android OS eating battery after 4.1.2 update?

I've had the 4.1.2 update on my Maxx HD now for a few days and I've noticed that Android OS is responsible for 10 to 15% of my battery usage. This was not the case pre-update. Anyone else seeing this? My overall battery life has definitely gone down. I know I don't have any rogue apps because I haven't installed any new ones for weeks.

While I haven't gone in and looked at what are the main things using battery, I have noticed a definite decrease in battery usage. I'm waiting until the work week to confirm since that is when I use my phone the hardest, but based on previous experience with weekend battery usage, my phone seems to be running much better and using less battery since the uprev to 4.1.2. That also seems pretty consistent with most of the posts I've read here from others whom have upgraded - better battery life.

So far, you seem to be the anomaly. Keep us posted as you investigate further.

I installed the update on my Droid Razr HD a couple of days ago and I don't see any change in battery life. Are you doing anything different with your phone over the last couple of days (example: viewing videos more often, etc.). A change in battery life isn't always due to a rogue app, it's sometimes due to something as simple as using a certain app, or apps, more often.

It might be because this weekend I've been away from WiFi and only on 4g, but I'm seeing a lot worse battery life.

I usually get around 6 hours screen time, yesterday I got 4. Like I said, I was on 4g the whole day, rather than the usual half 4g half WiFi. Would that cause 2 hours less screen time?

I believe that when we receive a new update we play with our phones a lot more, making sure everything still works as it should, and checking out new features. Not a fair demonstration of battery life. Let us know how it is going a week from now.

I upgraded mine this morning. When I returned to the phone about an hour later, it was incredibly hot and unresponsive. After a couple of attempts to reset the phone, it finally rebooted. Since then, it has been chewing through battery life with almost no usage; from 100% at 8:30 this morning to 61% at 11 am. Only had one five minute phone call and checked email a couple of times. That's it!

I'll give it a day, with a full recharge tonight to see, but this could really suck.

I'm not doing anything different at all. My battery life is still good, but I didn't notice Android OS in my usage list before the update, of at least not at the percentages I've been seeing. Can you guys help me out by checking your battery usage stats after a full day of usage? Is Android OS in your list? If so, what's the percentage? Please get back to me. Thanks.

Did you do a Factory Data Reset after the update?

... Thom

No I didn't. I've usually done factory resets in the past right after a major software update but the phone was running just fine afterward so I opted not to. I still may to that just to start fresh again.

I did a FDR yesterday, after a weekend full of bad battery performance and increased lag since the update.

Since the FDR, everything's running smoother, including the circles widget.

The battery life today is iffy, but that's because all of my settings weren't yet back to per FDR, which meant maps, Facebook, and gmail draining my battery when they normally aren't.

So, I'll check back in tomorrow after I've made sure all of my settings are back to normal.

this. try downloading an app called Fast Reboot. it will restart all your apps without restarting your phone(u may want to anyways. i do after a few days) might have an app draining the battery. i took mine off the charger at 6am and been using it pretty steady. i am currently at 89%.

I've had mine off since 6, with 2 hours of screen time, and I'm at 60%. It's about 10% less than how it was pre-update.

I'm not sure what the deal is. Everything setting is the same as before the update. Meh, guess I'll have to learn to live with it.

I've had a couple days at work to compare battery performance with heavy phone usage and the news is good for the most part. As noted in my original post the battery seems quite a bit improved since the up-rev to 4.1.2. The only caveat to that is it seems to be slightly worse than before when using a lot of data from the 4G network. But when not on 4G the battery life seems greatly improved. At least on my phone.

I have noticed that my battery life is slightly worse after the new update... no big deal ending up at 75 percent at the end of the day instead of 80 I guess lol

Same. Mine isn't as bad as it was a week ago, after purging a few apps and deleting a widget. Now I get 5 1/2 hours screen time instead of 6.... no biggie I guess
