Android OS %'s

Houston we have a problem. I'm getting extremely high numbers with the OS (to the tune of 79%) doing nothing.

I wiped the partition and did a factory reset last night and turned off all services through the night. Turned on everything and an hour later checked the %. Its at 75%. Only on screen widget is weather.

What are you folks getting and what Widgets do you have running?

Thanks!

I installed CPU Spy on my phone last night to see what the processors were up to. Reset the counters this morning. The phone has mostly sit quietly as I've been working on other things. According to CPU Spy, 3 1/2 hours after resetting the counters, the phone has been in deep sleep for 70%.

Now, out of curiousity, I made a change to Smart Actions that's likely also helping matters. I set my home profile to turn off cellular data. I figured that since I'm connected to WiFi there's little need for 3G/4G. After 3 1/2 hours, my battery has dropped from 100% to 90%.

you're talking about the % of the battery that the OS is using? i've got 21% here. the only "live" widgets i have running are "beautiful widgets home weather widget", "battery left 1x1 battery widget, and the "my verizon data usage thingamabob".

put me in martimus's camp with the display using the most of my battery life...pretty much "new phone syndrome" as i haven't really put the damn thing down for more than 10 minutes.

Interesting thing to note is that Screebl was keeping my processor busy. I've never had an issue with it. Since shutting it down OS has dropped to 12% and screen is the highest (obviously normal )

I had this problem last Monday. I think it MIGHT be an issue with Backup Assistant.

Guys, what are you using to monitor? It's something I've never checked before...
I'm using Android Assistant, which shows very low (zero to 6% usually) for Android System. Task Manager generally shows numbers in the 20's, or higher. quite a disparity, for the CPU percentage reported for "Android System".

At the suggestion of Verizon tech support, I did a wipe. BIG mistake. Didn't help, and took ages to get things back the way I want.

OOPS! I'm a bionic user--didn't noticed I was responding to a Razr thread. my bad.

I think that is something to look at. How did you disable it?

Can't. I changed the time to later in the day, when it has a data connection, instead of early in the AM when it might still be in the dock. I hope that resolves my issue. It's only been a couple of days, but so far, knock on wood, NO MORE Cpu warnings.

I had the same problem with Screebl when I switched to the Droid Charge from the OG Droid. Freakin' high Andoird OS% and I couldn't figure out why. It was driving me nuts.

I installed System Panel I believe, and found that Sceebl was the culprit. I guess it is because it's constantly using the sensor to measure the phones axis.

Anyway, Screebl is gone and I haven't looked back since.

I don't own the phone but I had the Bionic. Maybe if you try going into settings>privacy> uncheck backup my data it might turn it off?

Nope. The option in Privacy is for Google services--not verizon's lame Backup Assistant (for Contacts). Most of the time that I try to do a BA Sync, it fails. Even with a fast data connection.

Yup that was the culprit. I've been checking the stats and the highest it has gone is 37%.

Thanks for posting your finding as well. This is a great piece of info to know.

Trouble shooting sux but when you figure something out the info you learn is invaluable lol

I wiped last night and skipped it so it no longer attempts to sync or run anymore.

Here's how to disable BU Assistant without wiping.

does anyone know what the point of backup assistant is anyway?...since everything gets backed up to google/gmail?

Zero. If you go into contacts/menu/display options you can stop it from syncing. Click the radio buttons and uncheck bu assistant and uncheck verizon as well. Make sure when you turn it off in there you also choose menu/more/back up assistant and choose Google only.

My guess is that Verizon will tell you that Backup Assistant is there for non-technical users and people who want the flexibility of moving between phone platforms. After all by backing up your contacts with Backup Assistant, you could move your contacts from Windows Phone 7 to iPhone and then to Android without having to convert between formats.

i never even agreed to the terms & conditions for back assistant, so i don't think it's active - i couldn't even do the part that i quoted above in bold. couldn't get in unless i agree.
