Help Android OS using an increasing amount of data. Up to 10gig now in a month.

Hello all.

There is something wrong with myself or my Nexus 5.

All auto updates are off, been like this for months, background data was enabled the whole time.

I don't know what has changed, in the attached files you see March to April 17mb, April to May 33mb, then from may upwards it goes crazy from 6gig then 10gig.

I have now installed AFWall but i feel this is a bandage not a fix to this strange problem. I don't know if it's working yet also.

Anyone had similar cases? Where do i head?

Cheers Carlos

i went through this and it was a factory reset and turning on all background data that fixed it. Do you also have google photos, drive, most google services disabled?

Hello Jason

A factory reset is in my mind, such a shame tho. Everything google is disabled to a limit. Things like Google maps don't run properly without your account enabled, drive i dont use and disabled, photos i have to check, do you mean 'gallery'?

Just to clarify, factory reset, no recovery, ENABLE all background data.

Enable all background data first and see if that helps. Disable google drive and google photos all together. See if that works. If not then a factory reset from your settings and dont do a recovery from a previous backup, start a new one. I actually started a new google account just for the phone like in play store and maybe that helped too.
