Android OS with Exchange Email Sync

Hey everyone, this issue is becoming a greater and greater issue here in the office. We are currently running Exchange 2003 and have about a dozen android phones Nexus S 4G and EVO 4G (Sprint) and a few android tablets (Asus Transformers).

(Real Word Example of Issue) John Smith receives an Email from Joe Shmo who is busy with something else so he decided to forward the email on to someone else in the office to work on. Joe Forwards the email to Bob, Bob opens the email on his android phone (Nexus S) and sees there is a ".eml" attachment on an email he just got from Joe. If you click on the .eml attachment it says this is an unsupported format and it will not allow the user to open it.

If that user opens a web browser and logs into OWA or goes back to their desk and opens it in outlook they can see the attachment but not on the phone.

I get the same thing from our ASUS Transformer tablet. I have tried on the native email sync in the android software and I have also tried this in touchdown and it will allow me to open the ".eml" format but it still forwards emails as attachments.

I am just looking for more information on this issue and if there are other things I can do on the phone settings to maybe change this or allow me to open .eml formats?

Or do I just need to buy a dozen touchdown lics and roll that out to everyone who plans on running an Android phone?

Thanks for any help in understanding this!

It may be the stock email app or its settings. I use Touchdown and it does not forward email as EML attachments.

Do all devices forward as EML attachments?

This looks like it might be relevant: Issue 4760 - android - Forwarding e-mails on MS Exchange account are sent as .EML attachemts (v2.0) - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

The issue is flagged as "Closed" on google's side (presumably due to gingerbread), but as most people in there reported it against Exchange 2003, that may have something to do with it.

FWIW, my Incredible S (w/HTC mail client) had no issues with forwarded email on a Exchange 2007 server under both Froyo and Gingerbread.

Hey thanks for the info... I was able to test this with a buddy who is on exchange 2007 and his doesn't do the same thing. Looks like I just need to push hard for out exchange 2010 project. Thanks for the info.
