Android Pay

I don't like the fact that I have to add a pin code to my phone instead of adding it directly to the Android pay app when I am in the privacy of my home for the day. Google wallet lets you add a pin code directly to the app without have to unlock my phone when I am not leaving the house for the day. If I try to keep my phone unlock for the day while in the privacy of my home, and not stepping out for the day, android pay wants to delete my cards. That is Ridicules’. I would like to be able to keep it unlock in the privacy of my home so I don't have to keep unlocking the phone when text messaging, phone calling, etc etc.

I don't see a question here, so just to be sure, you do know that this is a forum for Android users, and none of us have any influence in how Google implement their apps?

There's no Android Pay where I am, so I can't test anything. But I can see how a phone lock is safer than an app lock: if someone has open access to the phone and knows what they are doing then they might be able to steal the sensitive data even if the app is locked (though I would sincerely hope it's all encrypted!). So it's possible that they had security in mind rather than convenience.

Heaven forbid.....someone breaks-in and steals your phone. That will be the day you were happy you had it locked. I keep my laptops locked as well even when used at home. In fact to even bank at home, I have to plug in the bank's USB security dongle keypad to enter my PIN for every transaction.

It's not about having it locked I don't really care if I have to lock it, its the fact as i stated that it wants to delete the cards if I unlock it in the privacy of my home. So I don't have to unlock it each time when I am home alone, but if i do that it will delete the cards. I have locks on all my devices, but none will delete my information if I just want to unlock my phone for the day in the privacy of my home when no one is around but me.

I don't know what they're trying to achieve there, but I read that Google wont let you use a rooted device for this service. Although I'm not likely to be using Android Pay as I'm not in the US. Google is banned here....

I think the thing about "in the privacy of your own home where nobody else is around" is that the phone doesn't know that. It just knows it's being left unprotected. And of course if you grab it and go out without remembering to reset the lock then it is unprotected in public.

So if the motivation is security (and I have no inside knowledge) then I can see the point. Google want this to be accepted, and headlines about how someone can steal your card information by connecting your phone to a computer and running a backup app (made up but not implausible example, and something that requiring a device lock avoids) would be damaging. And they would be damaging even if the data were encrypted (hopefully!) and it was only possible if someone was careless enough to leave the device unlocked. Of course they could be thinking about your security, but with any commercial company my first rule is to consider how something benefits them .

I have one PIN to unlock my phone and use my watch as a smartlock. What bugs me now about Android pay is that I can't set a separate PIN for it. On Wallet I could. Seemed more better to have 2 sets of numbers to crack instead of just one.

Yes i agree if u disable the lock feature it will delete the card information in 5 minutes. I always had my phone locked and unlocked at home but i cant do that without having my cards deleted. having two locks was better then one as you stated wallet lets u do both

Agreed. I didn't mind having two PINs to get to Wallet.

I have the same compliant as the OP. I sent an email to Google and they told me they implemented the required PIN lock as security. I dislike having to use a PIN every time and would prefer to use a PIN to open the APP. I disabled the PIN and let it delete my CC info. No my issue is I cannot use the APP to access my store affinity cards. They are there because I get allerted when I walk into the store but I cannot access them from the APP.

Yep I doing the same thing and let it delete my card info.

Wow Thanks that worked, I was able to use it, had a hard time finding it on my phone was hidden pretty good in my security tab.
