Android Phone 7 Theme

Will PM you the screen test results when I get time Paulmz, will try the 5 by 8 for now with the notification bar and dock off.

Edit: I set the statusbar to hidden to make space but it seem I can't place any widget in that area, is this supposed to happen? any work around ?

I can't think of any reason why it won't place. Are you using LauncherPro or ADW? If you're using ADW, do you have the trash can set at the top? If so, maybe turn it off...?

Well, out of the images that you sent me, the only one that had incorrect dimensions was the "Applanet" one. Most of the others ones I originally made so they were all correct. I'm not sure why the icons still aren't lining up the way they should.

I will work on some toggle widgets that are more image-based as opposed to the blue-tile look. I think it will fit in better with your layout if they were actual images. I'll post them after I get them finished.
 
Well, I can't believe that I didn't think of this before... I'm sure that some of you figured this out and are already using this feature.

I have been constantly looking for widgets that can be used as "tiles" with notifications, toggles, clocks, etc. ever since I started this theme. Some worked... a lot didn't. I would usually end up using APK Manager to skin someone else's widget. But I had en epiphany the other day that is so simple yet effective.

If you're using ADW Launcher (I'm not sure if LauncherPro has the same capability) there is an option to "Overlap Widgets" when resizing:

I used Make Your Own Clock Pro for the clock/date/alarm/battery combo, placed it first, then placed a corresponding size of Desktop Visualizer widget, stretched and then shrunk the size in two-steps to drag the blue widget onto the same space as the clock... and, voila! I did the same thing to the Beautiful Widgets Beautiful Weather 1x1 widget as well. This easy process works well with any other widget that has (or can be altered to have) a transparent background.

The main thing to keep in mind is how things are placed on the homescreen. There is a hierarchy that must be followed in order for the correct widgets to overlap each other. The above procedure merits an ease of creation but poses problems with a reboot. Although the widgets are placed with the first one behind the second one, they will reverse when the device is powered down. The following example shows pretty much the same setup as above, but places the blue tile Desktop Visualizer widget on top of the clock:

Doing it this way looks like it doesn't work at first, but after rebooting the device the widgets load in the order they were placed. The first procedure at the top of the thread shows immediate results, but will need to be fixed after each reboot.

It's strange but I think it makes sense now. Needless to say, let me know if anyone has any questions.

I found a problem with how I was overlapping widgets. I upgraded HexDefense and on first startup it rebooted my phone. No problem there, but it helped me to discover how the stacking order of overlapping widgets when you create them as opposed to when they reload after power-up can be troublesome.

I'm having trouble making screenshots... I don't want to root my phone. So now I'm trying to figure out how to do that without rooting it... and I fail... and fail T_T
 
Shoot Me doesn't work. And I tried that method with the SDK thingy, but it failed because it couldn't some file or something, I dunno

I have a question and I hope it hasn't been answered on this thread already. I have tried looking for it and can't find it. Okay, to the point. I am trying to figure out how to HIDE the dock. I have my tiles all set up and like the look and all but not the dock anymore. I am using LauncherPro. Can someone explain how to do this?

what error do you get ? have you modified the path value in order for DDMS to run correctly ?

and the IS can be rooted now, just use AlphaRevX to go S-OFF and then install CWM and SU or install a custom ROM.
 
Hi, paul, nice theming, been trying to do this on my phone, but litle bit confused about how we calculate the widget size, my phone is lg p500.

my LP setup:
Home Screen
Number of columns = 5
Number of rows = 5

Appearance
Hide notification bar = ticked

The last time I used LauncherPro, it didn't have that option. Turning off the dock is the main reason why I switched to ADWLauncher. Also keep in mind that if you turn the dock off, you will need to reconfigure your icon dimensions. When I did mine, I changed my rows from 5 to 6, which decreased my icon sizes by 2-pixels in height (on a 480 x 800 resolution).

I will take a look at this later tonight (going to the beach today). Just a question, though... is there any particular reason to do a 5x5 layout? Most everything on this thread is 4x5 or 4x6.

I'm not going to root my phone, just to find out some icon resolutions Dx
