Android Phone and emails deleting

TeleRisk

Newbie
Recently acquired a Android smartphone; running 4.1.2.

I have my POP mail acct created on my Desktop using Outlook 2007. The desktop is configured to NOT leave messages, so when the desktop downloads my InBox from the server, all messages are removed from the server.

I setup the email acct on my Android phone to access the same POP email.

When I connect with my Android phone to fetch my new messages I get all messages that have NOT as yet been Downloaded to my Desktop. The messages on the Android delete automatically when I download them using my Desktop\Outlook. I therefore have no way to keep new messages on my android phone. What is taking place is the Android Phone is mirroring my email providers server and as soon as I download inBox message to my Desktop and they are gone off the server, they will also be off my Android Phone.

I have contacted my email provider, they advise this has nothing to do with their service, its an Android issue.

I could maybe check Leave messages on server in my Desktop\Outlook configuration but that would result in my InBox server filling up and requiring me to log into the webmail to delete messages......

I just want to find out how to keep messages on my Android Phone.....

In your incoming server settings, if there's a 'Sync with server' or similar setting you can try changing that. If no luck, see if you can change that POP account to IMAP service.

I got into similar issues with pop3. A mail I wanted to see on my phone whilst out was now only on my PC etc etc. I had the desktop set as yours and the phone set to 'download mail and leave copy on server' (whatever your email app settings is - if it has a similar one). The idea was that my PC was the 'master' and the phone only handled new stuff whilst I was out.

This got to be a pain though so I bit the bullet and went for an imap account. Much more flexible. But your issue isn't an 'Android' issue, it's a combination of 'email app and using pop3' issue. You may find a satisfactory solution by testing out a few of the email apps from the play store (K9 for example), but if not then think about going imap.

CrashDamage.....using NetZero, been my email for over 20 years, it is only a POP3 service. There is a Sync setting but when I unchecked, it was like turning the acct Off.....I couldn't fetch anything.

dvhttn.....I did install K-9. It will Hold New messages on the Phone...even after the master\Desktop has fetched them. My issue with K-9 is, I got a message with 3 pdf attachments......and it would only open 1 of the 3, the other 2 it showed were corrupt. When I downloaded this same email into my master, which was after I download it to the phone, all pdf attachments opened fine. This was the 2nd email with pdf attachments that the phone couldn't open so it makes me wonder if that is an issue with K-9. Wish there was a K-9 Forum.....there are so many settings in K-9 that I have no idea what they are and maybe my issue deals with one or more of those settings. I wouldn't want to experiment and encounter other issues. K-9 should at least have a manual Online that details each settings......

You might try AquaMail. Very nice UI and a LOT of configuration options. BUT, to help you easily figure them out, AquaMail has a very good built-in manual/help system in Menu > Settlings > Help/FAQs/Forum.

Hm. When viewing the email with the PDFs did you make sure the email was completely downloaded? K9's been awesome on every phone I've used it on.

@telerisk: the mention of K9 was just an example, but there are many others out there. Plus the solution to the problem you saw was maybe as mentioned above. I use an imap account with Profimail Go - I went for this app as it was about the only one that would keep a local copy of ALL my email on my phone (I live where even a 2G signal can be a bit 'random' ..... ). It also does pop3 accounts.

Emails with pdf attachment were always downloaded fully. When I would tap Show Attachments, if for instance 3 attachments were included with the email (all pdf's) I would see the Attachment with a .pdf and in the case were I could not open all attachments, one had a .dat extension and I could not open it. Once again there are soooo many settings in K-9 and who knows if one of those setting might require a change....but without details as to the various settings for the most part they may as well not be visible. I have written to K-9 but don't think I'll get a reply.
