Android phone file transfers to OSX

How do I transfer files from my Android phone to my OSX? Apple computer?
I plugged my phone in and turned it on. but no pop-ups. I need to know b4 I d/L any programs.

I use AirDroid myself, which is on the phone and uses WiFi. Phone is not plugged into the Mac.

Have you tried Google's Android File Transfer tool? Let's you copy any file type either way using the Finder over usb.

The device should show up as a volume, if the device is set up to allow file copies. HTC Sense has a tool that comes up that prompts for connection type such as charge only, transfer files and connection sharing. The alternative is to push the file through Bluetooth.

Thing is many ICS and JB devices don't support connecting as a removable volume, they only have MTP and PTP, and so won't appear as a drive on OS X. So you have to use something like BT, AirDroid or Android File Transfer.
