Android phone suggestion needed

Hi guys,

I've been thinking about getting an android phone for a while but I have specific needs. I don't know much about them and the ones I like just from looking, not the from looking at their specs are Dell Streak 5 and HTC Thunderbolt but I prefer a phone what will be best for the job not really the way it looks
These are my requirements:

1. long battery life
2. best GPS strength
3. Unlocked (I can get that on ebay)
4. quad band
5. lots of storage or expandable storage
6. Not small, min 4inch screen

What I need this phone for is when I travel I'd like to be able to use Google maps/earth (perhaps offline, so I could cache the google earth maps - that's what I need a lot of storage for). Quad band, unlocked so I can use it almost all over the world to make phone calls with local SIMs. I also would like to have turn-by-turn navigation anywhere in the world and I don't really want to buy maps (I understand I might have to have data plan). I don't like looking at the maps on a tiny screen so that's why I am asking for 4inches at least.
Does a right android exist for me? Can someone help? I am overwhelmed.
Also, just to add to this 4G would be nice :)

Thank you

Droid Incredible 2 hits everything you've said except for 4G, and there isn't a phone on the market right now that hits all of them. You won't even need to unlock it, its a global phone straight from the store.

Thanks, except that I can't find a place to buy it. When googling it all I get is references to verizon. Also, how does it compare to thunderbolt? Where do I buy it?

I suggest you should wait for the Galaxy S2 which is by far the best smartphone and is coming out in probably a month or two.

This article on Phandroid and this article on XDADevelopers should answer most of your questions on whether the Galaxy S2 fulfills your requirements.

Don't expect the phone to be on eBay soon. But you probably can root it yourself.

Thanks, I wish the phone was released already as I am traveling in less than a month and it would be nice to have the phone. I might have to get something else.

If you are with Verizon, they have a 30-day "trial" period (other carriers might have the same but you need to check). Basically, if you are not happy with the phone, you can switch to something else with equal price. Therefore, you could get a different phone now for your trip. Then switch to the GS2 when you are back home later.

Thanks, but I am not with Verizon. I actually don't buy phones from the service providers because they are locked (is it different for androids?).
