Android phone without DATA plan

Android handset without data plan = financial suicide.

I had a Verizon Data plan for my Droidx. I was unable to use the data plan when I REALLY needed it because data is not available everywhere. I called and protested until the moved me to a "pay per mb" plan. Then I went into the settings of my droid and turned off data wile leaving on my wifi. Works perfect. BUT ... if I make any changes to my plan I lose my ability to pay per Mb because it is "grandfathered" into my current plan. Most places I vacation (like Puerto Rico or Vermont) don't have Verizon 3G. When I am home I always have access to a wifi at work, home or restaurants. Other than that I can't use it when I drive anyway ... beside the navigation is lost more than I am! ;-)

I would rather pay more for the phone and NOT have a data plan.

I know this is late but in case anyone else has a similar question here's what I've been able to do:

1) I've had T-Mobile for years already
2) I have an iPhone jailbroken and unlocked and used on T-Mobile without data plan and I always use WiFi
3) I have a China made "Hero H300" Android phone that I have used with my T-Mobile sim and again, no data plan just WiFi

At one point T-Mobile offered one month of free data to demonstrate how fast their 4G network was (although I only had a 1st generation iPhone). I accepted and that lead to a lot of headaches as they charged for the free month and continued to charge after I deactivated the data plan. Turns out my wife's iPhone kept re-activating the plan so I had her blocked and had the data blocked on both phones. Eventually T-Mobile did credit back all charges but it was a pain and lot of back & forth with them to get them to do so. At one point I had gone through the BBB to get $50 credit back.

Also, I used Avast on my Android phone to block all but WiFi data using the Avast Firewall settings. On Android 2.2.1 I thought there was a setting that also allowed you to uncheck the data services over the cell network? I don't have the phone with me right now but I am pretty sure I found it under settings.

Hope this helps!

3) I have a China made "Hero H300" Android phone that I have used with my T-Mobile sim and again, no data plan just WiFi

I have been using TMobile prepaid without data plan on a Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4g for a year now.

However, I have recently bought a China Made phone. I put my TMobile prepaid SIM in that phone, it recognized that it's TMobile network, but I am unable to make any phone calls from it.

So my question is how difficult was it for you get your TMobile SIM card work on Here H300? Did you had any problem with your SIM card on that phone?

Thanks
BM
