Android power on

tab2rx8

Lurker
Hi guys,

i have a problem, i wish to power up my galaxy tab 2 (7) via an external power supply

the only trouble is, the hard buttons dont exist anymore on whats going to be left of my stripped out galaxy tab so i wont be able to turn it on.

I want the device to actually turn on (fully) when the usb is connected instead of just going to the charging screen.

how can i go about this?
is it even possible

So you want the phone to turn on when you plug in because there is no lock button? If the device isn't on and you plug in it'll only charge you need the lock button to turn it on

Welcome to the forums tab2rx8 :)

Couldnt you just turn it on before you lose all the hard buttons and leave it on forever just plugged in to the external power?

thanks for the welcome, no i'm afraid the power source is intermittent (car battery)

thus if not driven for a while the charging of the tablet would be insuficient and require the tablet to be manually turned on at some point.
if left charging constantly the battery would be drained.

the power is supplied when the car starts only thus saving my battery

what would be perfect is as power hits the tablet it turns on.

Unfortunately, the only thing you could manage is rerouting the power via cable to turn on when you turn the keys to the car, or directly connect it to the car battery?

I did this with my alarm system.

I don't know what would be required but it could work.

this is what will happen at the moment, when i turn the keys to acc the power to the tablet will be initialised. it's just turning the actual tablet on from fully off that i need to get working.

How does the tablet turn off? does it just run out of battery? And you will have to do some wiring to get that to work.

i'm using tasker, when it detects that charging has stopped it turns the tablet off completely.

also when charging it keeps the screen on and when the orientation of the tablet is face down (satnav hood closed) it turns the screen off

the wiring is in place to connect it, it's literally just the problem of, when it is off how do i turn it back on without a button

hmm if only tasker could set something like, when charging turn on :p

Couldn't you wire a new power button, and fashion it to the dash or something?

this is roughly what i plan to do if i can't get it to power on but i really was hoping to avoid it. just a messy solution really.

im not sure if it would be a hardware problem with the tablet turning on via charging or something in the os that i could change?

for now i shall keep looking, it's the only thing stopping me sticking the damn thing in there

I remember with old iPod's you really couldnt turn them off because as soon as they hit charge they would turn on.

I am assuming you might be able to change something in the software, but I honestly havent got a clue.

The easier solution for me, sounds like fashioning a power button on the dash and going from there, im assuming it wouldnt look too out of place or ugly haha

i can drill a small hole in the area of the dash just above where the button the tab would be and put a small spring loaded button in there to press it but i really want to get it to just start on power grrrr
