Hey guys, fresh noob out of the box here.

Anyway, I'm finally getting rid of my crappy iPhone 3g, and buying an Android.
Now here's my problem. (Firstly, keep in mind I live in Canada so the evo and the desire hd and all those other gorgeous 4" screen phones are out of the question)

Im having to choose between the HTC desire Z (on Bell), the samsung captivate(rogers), or the sony x10 (on rogers as well) As for the monthly price, they are all the same for both the carriers. I cant seem to choose which one is overall better for me. I was hoping to get something bigger than the 3.5" from my iphone, such as the captivate or x10, but those dont have flash on the camera. The x10 has a 8 megapixel camera, but on the other hand the desire z has a really nice UI, pretty fast proccessor and 720p hd recording...

please help guiz, Thanks a bunch!

The Desire Z has this weird keyboard which I for one do not really see as something that I'd like to use all the time. I had a dumbphone with keyboard and from my experience these things wear out a lot, so the hinge system of the Z is kind of scary.

I don't know how carrier lock-down is on the Captivate in Canada but it's probably the best choice in hardware. My mate has a X10 and well, it's not that good.. It's slow, isn't up to date, no multitouch.. I wouldn't go for it (the camera isn't much better either).

Well originally I had the HTC desire in there too, but when I realized the desirez has the same specs and a keyboard, well logically I ruled the desire out. I dont think I would really be using the keyboard that much except for some occasions...

Im just really frustrated how there is no flash for the captivate..

Not sure why the flash is a big deal. I've never used the flash on my Nexus for anything more than a flashlight (which does come in handy at times). The LED "flashes" have a very limited range and shift the color all over the place.

I use my flash as a flashlight too, so I really like having it, and though the Captivate has the better hardware, it's build quality is horrible. If you were thinking of flash on a Galaxy S phone (captivate is a Galaxy S phone) why not wait for the Nexus S? Which is essentially a Galaxy S with a flash and even better hardware specs (New Android 2.3 Gingerbread). Though for photo's the flash is always useful IMO. I use it for low-light area's as well and it helps a bit, you will also not be able to use the camera in the dark at all so you can rule video recording at night out (funny videos with friends lol).

So I don't know, I like playing games so having good hardware would be awesome for them, but the Desire just has better support and built quality (I don't like Samsung phones because of the way they feel, which is ultimately where you are going for) which made me buy it.

In short: Captivate for better hardware (though you should look into carrier-lock down on it, it can mean you won't see Froyo or Gingerbread at all) and the HTC Desire Z for an overall better feel, built quality and support (or maybe the old Desire, if you don't need a keyboard, one thing to note is that the old Desire has only limited space for apps so if you're an app geek which I assume you are since you were using iPhone I wouldn't pick it..).
